In 2018, the ketogenic or “keto” diet topped the list of trending health-related questions searched on Google. The keto diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet. The idea is that getting most of your calories from fat forces your body to use different energy pathways. Instead of carbs for energy, the body burns fat, entering a state called “ketosis.” While the ketogenic diet may be recommended for some people with uncontrolled epilepsy to help control seizures, for most people the high fat content combined with limits on nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables and grains is a concern for long-term heart health.

Thank you for the informative video! I enjoy being able to learn about keto from an objective standpoint. Diets are very passionate subjects for many and it's hard to be informed of this type of information without it coming from someone who is preachy or bias. I also appreciate you stating how everyone's body is different and will respond to things differently. Being an older video a few things have changed. The ketogenic diet is now the most studied diet in the world. The vast majority of research points to very positive results. Currently there is 135 studies being undertaken as of July 20 2022.

Not quite true that 'you know your own body best', because that is based on solely a subjective perspective. For instance, a person who eat refined carbohydrates all day would use that argument: "This is what works for me. If I do not eat breakfast I will feel sick". However, personal experience CAN be true objectively. You just have to go to the doctor and verify it by blood samples, urine test and so forth. Self medication and self nutriotion should never, ever be done alone without backing up by the doctor or other relevant medical service.

I can't imagine a high carb diet being healthy unless the carbs are all complex carbs, but even then. Can't we get by on fat with almost no carbs? I suppose the amount and kind of exercise we do matters. I think that it's a mistake to consider nuts without specifying which nuts. Not all nuts are healthy.
I was on Atkins when I was younger and exercising a lot playing squash and pumping iron with low weights and high reps. I was often headachy and nauseous. A doctor I worked out with told me to ease up because the nausea and headaches was typical of ketosis. I found much more success by controlling my food intake according to symptoms. A very very important thing when dieting in any way is to check your blood levels to be sure that the diet is safe for YOU.

I love your content, and I love that you don't impose a diet on people. I have to say that even though the Keto diet follows good principles, it is not a very good diet, plus following a specific cookie cutter diet is never a good idea because we are all different, but you know why? Marketing, so all these product companies come, read or hear a part of what's being said about a diet and then they start twisting things to sell more, then fitness influencers start creating diets that go with the sponsors they have or can potentially have, knowledge is power, and I like you are sharing it.
