Just how lean can you get and maintain year round? The fitness industry has definitely warped most people’s minds in terms of what body fat percentage is realistically sustainable, with many young lifters aiming for that shredded physique in the 6 to 10% body fat range. In today’s video I explain why taking your cutting phase all the way down to these levels might look good on the surface in terms of muscle definition, six pack abs and overall physique aesthetics, but why it’s just not a good goal for most men. I’ll explain five key downsides of losing fat to such a degree, and what I recommend you do instead so that you can maintain a lean body overall but while still building muscle, gaining strength and performing at your best both in and out of the gym.

Ive gotten to 12 percent bodyfat and i was miserable, im sure its not the same for everyone but i just wanted to see what i was capable of. I didnt enjoy it, im happy at 15%. 12% I WAS extra cautious of what i was eating, i was adding more cardio to my days, when id go out with friends theyd all get burgers or pizzas , beers or whatever and i was there with chicken and a salad and water. It just wasn't fun and what was it for? im not getting paid to look like that, im not a pro athlete that natrually has low bodyfat because of how much they have to train, and i didnt feel any better. AT 15% I feel i looked good, had some muscle definition, i was able to eat junk food from time to time without feeling guilty, i brought down the cardio to focus more on lifting heavier, for my lifestyle 15% is where im happiest.

When I joined the navy I was taped in at 7% when I started bootcamp. Keep in mind the navy's body taping is extremely screwed up. I was probably closer to 12-15%.

Who else caught at 1:41 the subtle lotion and toilet paper? 😂😂

I think I'm in between 15%-20% not sure but you can see my 4 pack and I have a distinct V. You can see fibers in my arms etc. I don't care to go to single digits

The warped perception thing is spot on. I'm around 20% realistically and while women don't understand that I've been lifting weights for 6 years (they just think I'm active and probably think I'm born lucky with my shoulders to waist ratio), I do catch people staring occasionally and I'm not particularly attractive. I feel like a fat f*ck but compared to the entire male population I'm apparantly looking well built judging by reactions and comments (mostly from men who don't lift lol). I'm just saying: we casual gymbros are doing quite all right even though we don't realize it because of social media.

Bet most of these comments saying they been 10% felt miserable, hungry, cold is actually 20%+ whose just trying to feel better about those blubbery waistline. If we were to randomly pluck 100 people off the street i bet you 90%+ won't even have the discipline and fortitude to reach 12% let alone 10% so please guys stop trying to sound like you were ever at mr.olympia fat level just go eat a salad

This maybe true but if my love handles are still there at 15% I'm going lower
August 27th, 2023 at 10:13
Darn 12-15%, I thought it will be 20% 😂

I can't imagine being like extremely skinny and training super hard at the same time. I've been seeing a lot of success with cardio+diet+my usual workouts in terms of seeing my abs and that sort of thing, but it makes me feel pretty tired and hungry in the mornings, like almost to the point where I'm desperate to have a cup of coffee and eat something right away when I wake up. It's been worth it so far, but pretty soon I will want to bulk again to push myself further in the gym.

Dude I would call your 10% body fat pic pretty shredded

Great video. I am 40 and dont want to have that "DAD BOD" I have spent the last 6 months cutting. Probably sitting around 11% now. I can definitely see abs all the time, some muscle fibers, nice cut lines and veins but man am I miserable. Almost no energy, everything revolves around my macros and working out. Great videos. Definitely needed to hear this.

my motto is the "happy 4 pack" and then turn it up for month every couple of times a year
August 27th, 2023 at 12:44
What’s the equivalent for women? About 18%?
August 27th, 2023 at 13:26
I think I'm gonna aim for 15%. It looks aesthetically pleasing to me, and feels like a healthy percentage for maintenance.

I went from 31 to 14% and this bro is fully wright, after 18% it gets harder and harder to get from 16 to 14 took me almost a month healthy carb cycling. Every 0.5% almost getting stuck or getting stuck metabolically. Im planning to go to 12% then do a photo shoot and go back to 14-15% thats doable because sometimes i like to eat chocolate and things what in my position is just not a good idea since the massive sugar carbs pull the bloodsugar so hard up that hormonal balance gets disturbed and it took 2 days to get it straight again , sometimes even longer then i had to accept to go back a % and do it again. The sacrifice one has to make is intense. Specially when genetically one is a easy grower. 1 tony chocolate bar equals 3 days gym…
Sorry to say but there are lots of bubbles in the gym bragging aboutbeing on 3% lol hell nah

Currently if I am carrying 108lbs of water I am 14% 110lbs of water and I am 13%, and the regular hydrated not bloated appearance of 174-176lbs and 112lbs of water at 6' I'm 12% body fat.
