Losing a bunch of belly fat in a few short weeks is not only possible, but I’m going to give you the exact framework for you to see drastic improvements in just 30 days. The truth is you can lose a substantial amount of belly fat in a few short weeks while improving your health, energy levels, and overall body composition. So in today’s video, I’m going to lay out the most applicable steps to quickly burn off belly fat while retaining as much muscle as possible

Obviously, we all know that to drop fat we have to reduce our calories and eat healthy foods, and there are a lot of different ways you can do this, but in today’s video I want to provide a super simple step-by-step guide that you can try without overthinking it and taking action is the biggest key to actually losing that belly fat. So the very first step that I’d like you to take is to decrease your meal frequency. And I know this runs counter to much of the mainstream advice that convinces you to eat 5 or 6 meals a day. Instead, I’d rather you try to eat one or two meals a day tops. We want to minimize not only the amount of calories you take in per day but also the amount of willpower and complexity that it takes to burn as much fat as possible.

One meal or two meals a day is ideal for this, and unless I’m actively trying to build muscle and trying to bulk up it’s the way I’ve been eating for years. (1) You’re not going to lose muscle, you’re not going to slow your metabolism down and you’re not even going to be hungry if you set up your one or two meals a day properly and give your body some time to adjust. The benefit of eating fewer times is that your stomach has a natural stretch reflex that indicates to your brain when you’re full, so you’re only physically going to be able to eat so much per meal. And I’ll explain exactly what you’re going to be putting in your meal if you want a super simplified approach that isn’t based on counting calories at all. But before we jump into that I want you to plan on eating absolutely nothing for breakfast. A good idea is to start your day with black coffee rather than a meal because it may help reduce your appetite and most people can quickly adapt to just skipping breakfast with relative ease. If you can’t wait until your nighttime meal I recommend setting up two meals per day. One sometime around lunch and the other an hour or so before bed.

The next step is to go shopping for the simplest foods that can make delicious-tasting meals that fill you up and provide the nutrients that your body needs. The general advice that I always give is to go shopping on the outside aisles of the grocery store, in sections like produce, meat and seafood, dairy and eggs, and also a few items in the inner aisles, but today I want to get much more specific to make this guide very directly applicable and straight to the point. So when you get to the grocery store start in the produce section and buy already cut-up fruit like watermelon, pineapple, and honeydew melon. You can also get some avocados in this section and you can buy whole fruit that’s easy to eat and doesn’t require prep time like apples, bananas, and berries. But the point is to buy things that are simple to prepare. You don’t want to have to cut up a whole watermelon every time you’re feeling hungry, because we want to make the dieting process as easy and hassle-free as possible it takes enough willpower as it is to cut back on the number of calories you’re eating per day.

If you’re starving and you run over to the fridge, you’re much more likely to grab watermelon if it’s already prepared rather than something else that’s unhealthy in your fridge. So after produce you’re going to move on to the meat and seafood section. Here I want you to get 1 pound portioned amounts of protein either salmon, ground turkey, ground chicken, lean ground beef, or chicken breast, and you can also get other seafood like shrimp, or white fish. Next, you’re going to go to the frozen veggie section. I highly recommend frozen veggies over raw vegetables, because they’re already cut up, they’re just as nutritious, and they’re so much easier to prepare. You should get some frozen bags of green vegetables like broccoli, a California mixed vegetables bag that will include carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower, and you can get a bag of mixed peppers. If your grocery store also has a stir fry option you can get that as well. Next, I recommend you get some carbs for taste, although of course, you don’t have to do this. But for me, I enjoy my meals so much more with some carbs in…

Build The Perfect Meal Plan To Get Ripped (4 Easy Steps)

diet 18 Comments »

A one-size-fits-all diet plan doesn’t exist. That’s why, in this video, I’m going through – in just 4 easy steps – how you can build a custom diet meal plan made specifically for your body and your taste buds. We’ll first quickly figure out your calorie and protein goals and how many meals you should have for your fat loss diet, then we’ll fill in these meals for weight loss with specific foods. By the end of this video, you’ll have a system you can use to build countless different meal plans for your weight loss diet that you can actually stick to.

I remember stumbling across a diet meal plan on an online fitness forum back in the day. It involved eating the same 4 bland, boring, lifeless meals every day for weeks on end to lose fat. Guess what? All the work and suffering didn’t even get me any results! Which came down to 2 reasons. The first is that many “health” foods we’re told to eat are very calorie dense. That means they can easily take you out of a calorie deficit. The second issue is that if a calorie deficit is achieved with a strict meal plan, then it will work in the short term but not necessarily in the long term. That’s why the meal plan we’ll go through today will be personalized to your body, your taste buds, and set up in a flexible way for both short term and long term success.

The first step is the most important step if we want the diet plan to actually work. There’s no point adding any foods into our plan if we don’t yet know how many calories you can eat to lose fat. Now, most calorie calculators out there are a shot in the dark. They don’t consider how much muscle you have, how much you move every day, whether you lift weights or not, your age, your gender, and your height all affect how many calories you burn every day. The method we’ll use involves just a few simple steps that will take all of these factors into account and will be the easiest way for you to accurately determine the calorie target for your meal plan. To save you from the boring math, we’ve automated these calculations for you into the meal plan builder we created for you to download. Within just a few minutes of using it you’ll have your goal calories calculated for you.

After calories, the next most important component of your fat loss diet meal plan is how much protein it contains. Whether you shoot for the lower end or higher end of this range however will depend on your body fat. Those with more body fat will require less protein. In the meal plan builder you can download, we’ve automated this calculation for you. Most of you will end up with a goal of 1 gram per pound of your bodyweight, for example a goal of 180 grams of protein if you weighed 180 lbs.

The number of meals you eat per day for weight loss will determine how many calories and how much protein will be contained in each meal. That being said, protein frequency does seem to be important to minimize the risk of muscle loss as you lose fat. There’s an ideal range you’ll want to stick within. This seems to be between roughly 3 and 6 high protein meals per day, each separated by a few hours. This is where personal preference is key. Whatever you pick should best suit your schedule and keep you full and energized throughout the day. Once you’ve picked the number of meals you’d like to eat, divide your protein intake up evenly across the number of meals.

Now it’s time for the fun part, filling in your meal plan for your weight loss diet. We’re going to provide you with 3 lists of protein, carbs, and fats to use to fill your meal plan with how you wish. In the downloadable meal plan builder, we’ve also added vegetarian and vegan protein options to this list. The foods in these lists are the lowest calorie density options available, and will be highly effective at keeping you full. So, at each meal, select the foods from each category that you want to eat and adjust the portions so that by the end of the day you get close to your calorie and protein goal by at least within about 10%. Throw in a little bit of your inner chef to get a meal plan that’s designed specifically for your body and filled with enjoyable meals .

Nutrition is hands down the most important part of getting lean. Within our Built With Science programs we remove the guesswork from your plan and show you exactly how to train and how to eat in order to burn off unwanted fat. How to Lose Fat AND Gain Muscle at the Same Time (3 Simple Steps)

fitness 20 Comments »

Can you build muscle and lose fat at the same time? Yes–and it’s known as body recomposition, where you build muscle and lose fat at the same time. However, recomp does come with a catch. We need to be at a calorie deficit in order to lose weight and strip off fat. But the drawback with being at a calorie deficit is that it severely compromises our ability to build muscle. However, this doesn’t mean it’s impossible to build muscle while losing fat, and in today’s video I’ll share 3 steps for how to build muscle and lose fat at the same time.

The first thing you need to do for body recomposition is setup your diet. Eat at a very slight deficit of roughly 5% to a maximum of 20%. And aim for around a protein intake of around 1g/lb of your bodyweight. Then, fill the rest of your calories with carbs and fats.

Next, to build muscle and lose fat at the same time, beyond training your muscles at an adequate volume, switch up your routine. For example, switching to a new training split, increasing or decreasing your muscle training frequency, and/or switching up some of your exercises or the manner in which you perform them.

Next, we need to optimize our nutrient timing so to build muscle while losing fat. First, you need to ensure that you’re evenly spreading out your daily protein intake into about 3-5 meals throughout the day. Also aim to have adequate carbs and protein shortly before and after you train.

When it comes to the question of ‘Can you build muscle and lose fat at the same time,’ the answer is yes, but you need to follow the action plan below:

Step 1 (Set Up Nutrition): Eat just slightly below maintenance calories (~5-20% deficit, or ~100-500 calories below maintenance). Multiplying your bodyweight in lbs by ~14-16 can give you an estimate as to what your maintenance calories are. Ensure your protein intake is ~1g/lb of your bodyweight, and consider going above this if you’re relatively leaner (e.g. 15% body fat or below).

Step 2 (Switch Up Training): Switch up your training routine. Still ensure that you’re training with the optimal muscle training frequency and weekly volume, but switch up your training to provide a new stimulus for growth.

Step 3 (Optimize): Spread your daily protein intake fairly evenly into at least 3 meals per day, and ensure that you’re ingesting adequate pre AND post workout protein + carbs in a timely manner.

Bonus Step (Measure): Track your bodyweight, circumference measurements, progress pictures, and strength in the gym. Use these to variables to gauge your progress.

A body recomposition isn’t ideal for everyone, but in the cases I went through and with the protocol I previously outlined, it can be an effective way for you to shortcut your transformation. But, in the long run, you’ll likely eventually want to transition to a dedicated muscle building or fat loss period and prioritize one or the other. And for an all in one, step by step program that shows you not only how to successfully achieve a body recomposition, but also then shows you exactly what to do afterwards so that you can continue to strip off fat and build lean muscle as efficiently as possible with science, then simply take the analysis quiz below to discover which specific program is best for your body and where it’s currently at:
